Founded on the foundational principle that collective imagination is a prerequisite to draw and produce entirely new physical forms, Paris-based Paf atelier crafts radical, human-centric environments that span architecture, scenography, and immersive narrative. The multidisciplinary practice unlocks fresh possibilities for human interaction by masterfully bridging bold geometric expressions with deep emotional resonance.

Drawing inspiration from global travel, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and active dialogue that stretches far beyond the traditional architectural desk, the studio translates abstract concepts into tangible landscapes. These spaces inspire visitors to explore their immediate surroundings with a renewed sense of curiosity, wonder, and joy.

"It is my job to dream with new aspects, materials, and collaborations. We all need dreams to continue to draw and produce new things," notes Paf atelier’s founder, Christopher Dessus.

Based in the French capital since 2017, Paf atelier operates fluidly across spatial design, scenography, and cultural research. Established by Dessus, the studio creates everything from experimental retail environments and high-profile exhibition spaces to temporal installations that align built forms with human emotion. Rejecting decorative excess for the sake of ornamentation, the studio links conceptual reflection with rigorous material experimentation, ensuring that every spatial intervention carries a distinct purpose and a robust architectural identity.

This cross-disciplinary methodology is further enriched by Dessus’s creative agency, Pli office, which frequently collaborates with international institutions and independent creators to unlock fresh creative energies across the intersecting worlds of architecture, design, and art. Although many of the studio’s installations are temporary by nature, Paf atelier maintains a strong focus on long-term cultural relevance. By pairing local production methods with emerging talents, the team continually shapes evolving physical environments that resonate deeply with contemporary audiences.

"Emotions and form can be matched inside the spaces we design. Our work is not decoration nor the need to create just to create. We collaborate with others—creatives, institutes, and more—to realize new energies," declares Dessus.

Underpinning all of Paf atelier’s work is a dedicated effort to align architectural form directly with human emotion, turning static physical structures into deeply immersive spatial experiences. This philosophy challenges conventional architectural paradigms, pushing designers to think beyond traditional utility and visual aesthetics.

"It is paradoxical to design physical structures to evoke immaterial feelings. To dream is not to simply watch though; when we dream, it means to be inside and as part of the dream. We wanted to create an atmosphere to immerse visitors to dream," explains Christopher Dessus.

This ethos spans a remarkably diverse range of project typologies, including temporary cultural interventions like "Cinema for Dreams," which was created in collaboration with designboom for Milan Design Week 2026. Within this project, the Parisian studio dissolved conventional spatial limits, seamlessly combining glowing screens and integrated seating into continuous architectural forms that completely enveloped visitors. Spaces designed with this focused intent encourage quiet reflection and genuine human connection, allowing Paf atelier to offer peaceful pauses within fast-paced urban environments while demonstrating how spatial design can foster optimism and inspire new possibilities.

The studio’s portfolio further highlights this versatility across various cultural and commercial domains. For the Orient Express installation at the America’s Cup in Barcelona, the studio utilized dynamic, sail-like forms to translate the invisible movement of wind into a tangible physical space. Similarly, for the "Festival de Printemps" at the historic Printemps Haussmann department store, Paf atelier joined forces with Yard Agency to construct striking inflatable lighthouse beacons that captured the public imagination.

In the realm of interior architecture, a collaboration with BB Architectes resulted in a striking residential intervention in Paris’s 11th arrondissement, where an orange lacquered steel and perforated metal structure artfully filters light and space. For luxury fragrance house Diptyque, the studio paid a sophisticated tribute to the Orphéon—the legendary 1950s Parisian jazz bar—by crafting sculptural brass instruments for installations spanning both Paris and London.

Meanwhile, at the historic Théâtre du Châtelet, Paf atelier deployed inflatable volumes, industrial scaffolding, and dynamic lighting to construct an unconventional stage set for "Variations VIII," a prominent concert program produced by Sourdoreille for France Télévisions. These varied projects underscore a unified commitment to challenging conventional spatial boundaries and prioritizing emotional impact in design.
