“We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day,” Linda Evangelista famously told Vogue in 1990. It was a spicy claim, but not a total shocker: The Canadian-born supermodel—along with her fellow “Trinity” members Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington—was a constant presence on runways and magazine covers, and the reason countless women asked their hairdressers for pixie cuts. In recent months, as she tried to sell her Chelsea penthouse loft of more than two decades, however, Evangelista faced a set of supply-and-demand forces that were tilted a little less in her favor.
After putting the four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence in the Spears Building on the market for nearly $9.5 million back in 2024, she came down to just shy of $8 million in January. This month, according to public property records, she finally sold the apartment for $6.75 million, marking a notable price cut of nearly 30 percent from her original asking price as she navigated a shifting Manhattan real estate market.
Of course, the final transaction still left her with a substantial financial upside compared to her initial investment. Evangelista had lived in the sprawling 4,000-square-foot loft within the converted furniture warehouse since 2001. At the time, she reportedly paid $2.4 million—roughly equivalent to about 140 days of waking up back in her peak 1990 modeling days—and subsequently outfitted the expansive interior in the definitive industrial aesthetic of the era.
The floor plan features polished concrete flooring throughout, complemented by exposed brick walls and warm butcher-block countertops set in the pass-through kitchen. Natural light pours into the residence through a trio of skylights carved directly into the impressive 13-foot ceilings, including a prominent fixture positioned above the cavernous great room, which also anchors the space with a functional fireplace. The primary bedroom boasts views overlooking the adjacent High Line, accompanied by an en-suite bathroom outfitted with a separate soaking tub and an enclosed glass shower stall. For storage, the apartment offers approximately 17 closets, including six floor-to-ceiling options situated within a dedicated dressing area—an essential feature for a fashion icon who accumulated decades of designer wardrobe pieces.
The original listing for the property leaned heavily on the appeal of its private upstairs oasis: a 2,500-square-foot roof terrace offering sweeping skyline views. However, that expansive outdoor space also turned into a significant source of frustration and legal friction for the supermodel years prior. In 2015, the building’s condo board attempted to place the entire $1.5 million financial burden of replacing the roof onto the owners of the structure’s six penthouses. The board argued that because the deeded private terraces on the roof were for the exclusive use of the penthouse residents rather than the entire building, those specific owners should foot the bill instead of divvying up the charges among all 30 units in the building.
Evangelista and her upper-floor neighbors—a high-profile group that included former Rag & Bone co-CEO David Neville and makeup designer Gucci Westman—pushed back by taking the dispute to court. That litigation ultimately concluded with an undisclosed settlement between the parties.
Legal and financial headwinds continued to occasionally touch the property. Evangelista was also sued by the building in 2023 over allegations that she had accumulated $237,000 in unpaid condo fees and failed to maintain her apartment in “first-class condition.” That legal action was also eventually resolved through a settlement.
Despite any lingering neighborhood or board disputes, the loft remained attractive to high-profile temporary occupants. This past September, the residence caught mainstream attention when Keanu Reeves reportedly paid $45,000 a month to rent Evangelista’s New York City home. Reeves stayed there with his partner, Alexandra Grant, while preparing for his Broadway debut in Waiting for Godot alongside co-star Alex Winter. Observers noted that the loft’s sleek, monochromatic palette and industrial polished concrete gave the space a subtle, inadvertent Matrix vibe that suited the actor well.
Corcoran’s Steve Gold, who held the listing for the property, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the finalized sale.
Having parted ways with her longtime Chelsea residence, Evangelista appears to have followed the path of the High Line northward to her next chapter in Manhattan real estate. According to public property records, she purchased a highly amenitized three-bedroom corner unit at 35 Hudson Yards for $5.2 million in March 2025. The modern building features floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views facing the Hudson River and an Equinox fitness club located conveniently downstairs. Passersby might even spot her running neighborhood errands or picking up groceries at the local Zara.
